Shimi and Shayna love each other but they haven’t figured out how to share food yet.  Watch this video of them fighting over carrots.

I can’t seem to wake up today in order to get work done so I took pictures of the buns instead.  Check out some cute new Shayna pictures.

Found the cutest set of bunny print long underwear the other day at Target.  Check out pictures of them here.

I made a little photo studio in my office and had Shimi come in today for some pictures.  He was making crazy faces!  Check these out and the rest on flickr.

Shayna’s so naughty!

I got a new camera today and went a little overboard taking pictures of Shimi and Shayna.  I think they might be a little annoyed with me.  Here are my favorites of the lot.  You can see the rest here.

My bunnies Shayna and Shimi were being extremely cute so I took a bunch of pictures of them.  Check out my bun buns:

I guess a better question is why doesn’t everyone love the Red Door Animal Shelter.  If you were one of the lucky 7 people to hear my talk at Blog World Expo you’d know that I volunteer at a shelter and play with rabbits to help me unwind after a long hard day of watching TV and playing The Sims 2.  Yeah don’t hate me because my job is cooler than yours.

Tonight I went and played with one of my favorite bunnies they have right now.  Her name is Delilah and she’s been pretty neglected all her life.  She was the pet of some med students who never really played with her and in the end dumped her at Red Door.  The poor girl has no idea how to deal with people and seems angry at the world.  She lunges at the other volunteers and staff and almost everyone there is afraid to play with her.

Despite all the warnings I’ve received from everyone I decided to sit with her about two months ago.  I didn’t try to pick her up or even approach her.  I just sat in a pen with her while she ate.  After she finished she came up to me hesitantly and sniffed me.   Then she marked me with her scent gland under her neck and hopped away.  Aha!  She likes me.  So I slowly introduced my hand to her and let her sniff it first and then slowly started to pet her.  It took a few tries and she ran away scared but eventually she lay down for me and put her head to the ground like my bunnies do when they want to be groomed.  We totally bonded that night and I was so sad the next week when I came to the shelter and Toni told me she had gone home with a foster parent.  I was happy for her to be on vacation from the shelter but sad that I didn’t get to play with her.  She was sent to a foster home that takes troubled bunnies and usually sends them back happier and less aggressive.

Then tonight she was finally back.  Toni told me she was still nipping at people but was slightly more calm.  A new young girl who started volunteering at Red Door while I was in Vegas warned me that she’s a nasty bunny.  I told her, no, I know Delilah, she’s a sweetie, she’s just shy and misunderstood.  I was thinking in my head, maybe she’s just nasty because you call her names…hehe.

I got in the cage with Delilah and played with her the whole time we were there.  I feel so bad because apparently she hasn’t been friendly with anyone else and I’m the only one she doesn’t bight.  I wish I could take her home with me but two bunnies= nice pets, but three= a zoo.  If she’s still having issues next week though I might have to ask to foster her for a few weeks.  Maybe I can get her to love other people.

On a happier note, this weekend the Shelter is having a Cookie Walk.  I’m baking some yummy cookies to sell and there will be lots of goodies and local artists selling holiday crafts all to raise money for the shelter.  If you live in the Chicago area come on by Sunday from 11 am to 4:00 pm to the Indian Boundary Cultural Center, 2500 W. Lunt street.

I think I’m going to bake my cookies tomorrow if I have time and post pictures if I can find my camera.  I’m thinking short bread cookies with white and dark chocolate frosting in of course bunny shapes. 🙂

Last but not least check out this picture of the adorable Delilah:

I can’t seem to find my camera anywhere and it’s a real shame because my bunnies are so cute.  Shana and Shimi were snuggling nose to nose and making out.  They’re so in love and wonderful!  The pictures above are from a few weeks ago.  I love my bunnies!

Speaking of love…we had a scare the other day.  Shayna was acting really weird and refused to eat.  I tried giving her her favorite treats but she just wouldn’t have anything.  I started to get really worried when she was cuddling up to me.  Usually she’ll cuddle for a second or two and then nibble me and run away.  She’s a funny bunny who likes to chomp on us once in a while.  So when she started snuggling me and not wanting me to put her down I got really scared!

We took her to our local animal hospital at around 8:30pm and were there for hours!  I was so worried because they didn’t really tell us much and we were waiting and waiting.  Finally they told us they wanted to keep her overnight for observation.   I asked to see her before we left to give her some kisses.  They took us back to a room and we had to wait for what seemed like forever until they finally brought her (and Shimi who was staying with her for moral support) back to us.  She practically leapt into my arms when the woman came in the room.  Poor baby looked so scared from being poked and prodded.

I spent some time hugging her and singing her her regular bedtime lullabies and then suddenly she was back to normal!  She started munching down veggies like she was starving and being her hyper self.  I knew she needed to come home because she was miserable there so I decided to take her home and watch her myself.  The vet seemed annoyed and concerned but I assured them I’d watch her carefully and if anything changed we’d come back right away.  They gave us 4 different meds to give her and told us to give her oxbow formula.

When we got home she started eating like mad.  She finished all her veggies from earlier and some fresh ones I put in for her.  Then she started going at her hay like crazy.  It made me feel so much better.  Then she started running around the room doing her usual laps around the couch that make me dizzy and I knew she was all better.  It’s possible she had a toothache because the vet sanded down her teeth and gave her some pain killers and that seemed to do the trick.

Now she’s totally back to normal thank goodness but we’re still finishing up the meds she was given just in case.  And poor Shimi is totally jealous of all the attention Shayna’s been getting.  Every time I give her meds he looks at me and asks, where’s mine, like it’s a treat.  Silly bunny!

Anyway, so happy that Shayna is back to her crazy self again.  I love my babies!

My good friend Jessica Day took these and more adorable pictures of our bunnies.  Thanks Jess!
